She Should Run, a non-partisan national network committed to inspiring more women and girls to get in the political race and make a bigger impact, is doing just that with a parody of a famed children’s classic—Fun with Dick and Jane. See Joan Run is a modern take on an iconic story, that will show women that they have an invaluable place in the political landscape if only they would run.

It's an election year, and if you're anything like me, your eyes have begun to glaze over from watching media saturated with political spectatorship, and an endless stream of candidates trying to trample each other to the top. That's why "See Joan Run" is such a breath of fresh air. It's the first bit of political writing that has pulled me from my glass-eyed stupor and prompted me to really think about our current state of affairs. It's also spot on.

In 2015, only 104 of the 535 members of the United States Congress were women, totaling an underwhelming 19.4%. Which begs the question, why? We all know a Joan (or three): leaders at work, active in their communities, great mothers -– everyday superwomen who get the job done. Why wouldn't we want more of them running our communities and nation?

"See Joan Run," brings to mind the age old adage - "If you don't like something, change it," and hopefully will prompt more mothers, daughters and everyday superwomen to get involved with She Should Run. After all, it's up to us girls to encourage each other to run for elected office and help bridge the gap. (Bonus: the book also makes for a great way to shift the conversation at your next happy hour from the latest frontrunner's toupee... er.... faux pas, to something you can finally agree on.)

I like Dick.
And there are a lot of Dicks in office who are probably doing a pretty decent job.
But that’s not enough.
A wise woman once taught me that the more different perspectives you bring together to solve a problem, the more interesting the solutions will be. See Joan Run takes a polarizing approach to stoke conversation around an important issue—the myopic focus and perspective of our government.
We live in a time when we need interesting solutions. And we need more diversity in government to bring those solutions forward. If women and other “non-Dicks” don’t run, then things won’t change. So run Joan, run. And get all your girlfriends to do the same.
The women behind this book all work for a big advertising agency, so you'd think they'd understand that name-calling is perhaps the least effective persuasive tactic. It tends to reflect more on the one doing the name-calling than on his or her subject. So, repeatedly referring to male politicians as "Dicks" is not only offensive to many enlightened men and an awful lot of women, too, but it also gets in the way of an important message that could be delivered in a much more articulate, mature, and intelligent way. And it might even be humorous, which this is not. This is the book Donald Trump would write if he were a woman. Was that really what you were going for? And how well does that serve the mission of SheShouldRun.org? Such a waste.
I can't wait to read it to my nieces! And my mom. I just wish my grandma were still with us because she would be ALL OVER THIS!
No more Dick! No more Dick! No more Dick!

Wonderful message for all the women thinking or trying to run for office. Lets join together and beat those Dicks out of office.
What a brilliant story! The illustration is great as well as the clever yet poignant point is delivers about inspiring more women to run for public office.
Joan, where have you been all my life?! I've been waiting for a book like this. I love how it addresses the issue directly and humorously. It's great to know that an organization like She Should Run exists. I will definitely check them out. This makes a great "friend gift", and yes, I will be reading it to my 8 year old daughter. Why? Because she should know. Make it happen, Joan, make it happen!
When my daughters pre-school class was learning about the presidents, they all asked where the "girl president" was.
How embarrassing and sad that they were told we had never had one. Joan is a fun way to bring that issue to life.
And while there ARE great Dicks in office, our current president being one, the truth is, THERE ARE TOO MANY DICKS IN OFFICE.
